'In the old villages of our foremothers, a ‘mooneh’ would contain a family’s annual needs of seeds, legumes, herbs, blossoms, dairy, olives, vegetables, and fruits.' |
Mooneh Inc. is a Canadian importer, wholesaler, and distributor of Levantine specialty foods.
Mooneh (مونة) is Arabic for ‘provision’, the act of providing or supplying sustenance, especially in times of need. In the old villages of our foremothers, a ‘mooneh’ would contain a family’s annual needs of seeds, legumes, herbs, blossoms, dairy, olives, vegetables, and fruits. Passed on generation to generation preparing a mooneh is a communal tradition of drying, leavening, fermenting, and preserving food; but it is first and foremost a practice of sustenance and sustainability. We are a food company at heart, our products evoke the savour of traditional recipes while making space for new and unique flavours derived from heritage grains, seeds, herbs, seasonal ingredients, and thoughtfully procured spices. Our goal is to provide a wholesome experience with memorable flavours, and a platform to uphold sustainable relationships between our customers and the farmers and makers we collaborate with. |
